I think Twitter has a noise issue, but Twitter seems dead set on a simple “feed” ideal. I think Twitter as a result is going to be very careful in rolling out any features. Lately it seems more intent on paring back on features. I like the quote tweet feature but I don’t see it every rolling out simple because of security issues.  No one likes “hidden” URL’s, especially Twitter. The only suggestion that shocks me is the “credible” sources idea. That seems so diametrically  opposed to the spirit of twitter, and even, bloggers, I am amazed it was brought up as a serious suggestion.

I did learn one nice trick for using Twitter though to cut down on the noise. You can add someone to a list, but not follow them. It keeps your main feed clean, pushes all the crap to your lists which you can then go check at your leisure. So, versus clicking “follow” blindly, just add them to a list.
Really though, I think Twitter’s noise problem is exactly the reason why Path seems like such a success.  Recreate some of that vibe by simply not following so many people. Why follow someone who basically 90% of the time is posting random inane crap? My enjoyment of Twitter went up enormously when I unfollowed everyone who was basically a Twitter spammer. My un-usable stage for Twitter is ~50 people.
